ABOUT ME

I’m Will McNally, a 26-year-old Game Developer from the Isle of Wight. I originally started as a film student who specialised in producing and writing, but during the pandemic found myself in a field that was being drowned out by the vast amount of unemployment. With the film and TV industry struggling to combat the regulations of COVID and witnessing internships for small projects getting hundreds of applications for a single unpaid role, I decided to change the course of my career and see how else I could channel my creativity, without giving up on storytelling.

In 2021 I began to search for work in the Games industry. Gaming has always been a hobby and love of mine and with the relationship to film and tv growing closer and closer over the years, I decided it was the perfect opportunity for me to continue to pursue my goals of telling stories, just in a neighbouring industry.

Ballistic Moon has been my home for almost 4 years, and I cherished every moment of it. Games have embodied everything I ever loved about filmmaking, the cooperation between departments and leaning on the expertise of others, to ultimately create something greater than you could do on your own.

I went from learning what an ‘engine’ was, to being highly adept at Unreal Engine 5, working as a Cinematics Artist and Designer. Produced and worked on motion capture shoots, shooting at Pinewood and Ealing Studios on multiple occasions. I’m very proud of how I’ve managed to bring my expertise over with me, using my knowledge of cinema to guide the creation and adaptation of engine tools on aspect ratio, camera functionality, depth of field, and reshaping the sequencer.

In 4 years, I have achieved a lot, and I am eagerly looking to expand upon that even further.

It is because of my love of language and literature that I take a very analytical approach to media. Over the years, I’ve written several essays on specific media and dived into topics that interest me as a storyteller, not as a way of furthering a career but because I am fascinated by the idea that a visual language exists and can be executed in a multitude of ways.

My graduation film Beauty was a Science Fiction piece that became one of the UK’s most awarded student films of 2020. I spent 4 years working on Until Dawn as a narrative designer, cinematics artist, and writer. I have worked as a freelance Script Editor for various clients, including a project currently under development for Channel 4. I am currently co-writing a screenplay with a long-term friend, an Oxford and NYU alumnus, based on a group of average sixth formers and the very real and relatable events that follow them through their time between school and the wider adult world.
